VEGAN / PLANTBASED POST WORKOUT SNACK IDEAS (PROTEIN AND CARBIS)
#Plantbased #postworkoutsnack. Avocado, Basil and Garlic linguine (with cherry tomatoes... which I forgot to add 🤦🏾♀️😄) and a Peanut, Banana and Flaxseeds Protein Smoothie. People usually hear Vegan and instantly assume your diet consists of lettuce, cardboard, and some kind of sponge like substance that offers substandard protein - I tell you no lies 😄🤦🏾♀️. People are even more surprised when they realise that you can maintain a curvy, healthy and muscular figure, without eating meat... the middle 'man' that eats the protein from the plants, and then digests it... for us to eat from it later. Yes, you did sense some sarcasm 😄. Vegans simply cut out the middle 'man' / animal, and eat the protein from the plants and grains the animals eat. However, the thing with working out is that you need to maintain a healthy and individual balance. The right way of eating, and timing is important in aiding your fitness goal, as is knowing what to eat. I do not workout to lose weight, so my routine is about strengthening, toning, and cardiovascular training. So this means I need to eat a Carb and protein-rich meal straight after a workout to stop weight loss, and support my body in replacing the amino acids (protein) that has been broken down during training. This requires roughly a 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein. Basically, we use up the energy stored in our muscles (glycogen) while training, so carbs help to replenish this energy, and protein enhances the process. Now you see why your news feeds and gyms are flushed with Protein Shake adverts? 😉. It is also good to add foods that are rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids to support the reduction of inflammation, so that's why I add a smoothie that has Flaxseeds, and/or a handful of Berries and Oats.
But remember... it's great and definitely necessary to work on our bodies, but do not forget to work on your mental/emotional wellbeing too! Process your emotions, exercise your brain with new challenges, strengthen your emotional intelligence with social interactions and relationship building, and find an outlet to talk about your 'stuff'.
